Busan City and Korea Federation of Women's Organizations Sign MOU for 2030 Busan World Expo Attraction and Promotion
Support Secured from 5 Million Members of Korean Women's Associations Council, Enthusiasm for Hosting Rises↑
On the 15th at 2:30 PM, Busan City will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Korean National Council of Women’s Organizations (President Heo Myung) for the promotion and attraction of the 2030 Busan World Expo at the International Protocol Room on the 7th floor of City Hall.
The Korean National Council of Women’s Organizations, established in 1959, is a council of Korean women’s organizations comprising 58 member organizations nationwide and 17 city and provincial women’s councils, with a total membership of 5 million, making it the largest women’s organization in the country.
In May, the Busan Women’s Council, a cooperative organization of this council, also held the ‘2023 Busan Women’s Conference’ to wish for the successful attraction of the 2030 World Expo to Busan, expressing their strong commitment to actively participate in future attraction activities.
This agreement was prepared to enable the city and the Korean National Council of Women’s Organizations to share the vision of realizing the dreams and hopes of Busan and, more broadly, South Korea through the attraction of the 2030 Busan World Expo, and to mutually cooperate in future promotional activities for the attraction.
At the signing ceremony, Busan Mayor Park Hyung-jun and Heo Myung, President of the Korean National Council of Women’s Organizations, will personally attend and sign the MOU. Executives of Busan women’s organizations, including Choi Hyo-ja, President of the Busan Women’s Council, will also participate to convey the passionate support of women’s organization members.
Once this MOU is signed, the two organizations will cooperate in promoting the 2030 Busan World Expo attraction through the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) General Assembly, competitive presentations (PT), and major domestic and international events.
Currently, the city and the government are making thorough preparations to inform the world of the Korean people’s strong desire to attract the Expo ahead of the 4th competitive presentation, a crucial stage in the bidding process, and are conducting an all-out effort in all areas of attraction activities ahead of the final host city selection scheduled for November.
With this MOU, the city expects to further boost the national enthusiasm for the attraction by gaining the support of the 5 million members of the Korean National Council of Women’s Organizations. Especially at this critical time, the council’s extensive domestic and international networks can be utilized for promotion, which is of utmost importance, and this is expected to greatly aid the all-out effort to attract the 2030 Busan World Expo.
Heo Myung, President of the Korean National Council of Women’s Organizations, stated, “Our council exchanges information and cooperates with the United Nations (UN) and the World Association of Women’s Organizations, working to improve the status and rights of women worldwide. We will use our broad domestic and international networks to build a nationwide consensus on attracting the 2030 Busan World Expo and actively promote the necessity of the attraction to them.” She also added, “It is very meaningful to contribute as Korean citizens to attracting one of the world’s three major mega-events, the World Expo.”
Mayor Park Hyung-jun said, “With the 4th competitive presentation in June and the final host city selection in November approaching, domestic and international promotion is more important than ever, and I sincerely thank the Korean National Council of Women’s Organizations for lending their support.” He added, “Our city will continue to mobilize all its capabilities and sprint forward to ensure that the 2030 World Expo is successfully attracted to Busan.”
