LH to Pilot 'Purchase Rental Remodeling' for 3 Houses in Daejeon and Jinju
Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) announced on the 13th that it will conduct a design competition for a pilot project involving the full remodeling (major renovation) of purchased rental housing.
The remodeling pilot project is a major renovation that fundamentally improves the residential environment of purchased rental housing by reorganizing individual households.

LH selected two locations (three houses) as the design competition targets, considering factors such as housing location, construction conditions, accessibility, and project promotion effects: Daejeon Galma (Hyeonjin Villa) and Jinju Sangbong (Cheonhwang Villa, Bonghwang Villa).
The competition theme is "Repair, Redesign, Renovate - Re: Home," with specific focuses including ▲ ideas for establishing a typical exterior remodeling of the housing ▲ improving living environments through adjustments of household and wall positions ▲ enhancing energy performance and safety ▲ proposing solutions to address the deterioration of building functions.
The competition will be conducted as a simplified contest to encourage participation from skilled small-scale architects by streamlining submission requirements. Eligibility includes those holding architectural licenses under the Korean Architect Act or foreign architects registered with the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. At the time of contract, the main contractor must be a domestic architect registered under Article 23 of the Architect Act.
The winner of the competition will be granted the rights for basic and detailed design, and will also enter into a construction supervision contract for the building designed through this competition.
Meanwhile, LH plans to relocate resident households starting three months prior to construction commencement, with residents’ consent, to ensure smooth construction. Construction is scheduled to begin in November. Additionally, for households that do not wish to relocate, LH will carefully establish safety measures to prevent damages and accidents during construction and minimize inconvenience to residents.
