Sancheong Expo Organizing Committee Makes Every Effort to Attract Japanese Visitors
Local Visits Held in Tokyo and Fukuoka, Japan
The Organizing Committee of the Sancheong World Traditional Medicine Anti-Aging Expo in Gyeongnam announced on the 12th that it visited Tokyo and Fukuoka, Japan, to hold local briefing sessions aimed at attracting Japanese visitors during the Expo period.
As of the end of March this year, Japan ranked first in the number of arrivals by nationality with 350,000 people. Judging that this is the right time to develop Expo-linked products and intensively promote them to Japanese tourists due to the increase in travelers following the COVID-19 endemic, the committee proceeded with this briefing session.
First, the local delegation visited the Korea Tourism Organization Tokyo office on the 2nd to discuss the development of Sancheong Expo-linked products and strengthening promotion targeting Japanese tourists in relation to the Sancheong Expo. Afterwards, they visited the Gyeongsangnam-do Japan Tokyo Office to discuss active tourism product development plans during the Expo period through local travel agencies specializing in health and healing.

They also held an Expo briefing session combined with experiencing Sancheong’s herbal tea and traditional food for local residents and travel agencies who have a high interest in Korea.
A representative from one of the participating travel agencies said, “The herbal medicine theme of the Sancheong Expo is a great topic that can attract Japanese tourists,” promising to actively develop travel products to attract many Japanese visitors to the Expo.
Also, a local resident said, “Listening to the Sancheong Expo explanation and experiencing herbal tea and traditional food made from Sancheong medicinal herbs made me feel as if I were at the Expo site,” adding, “I definitely want to visit Sancheong in September.”
The local delegation held a briefing session inviting the general public in Fukuoka from the 4th to the 5th, combined with herbal sitz baths and herbal constitution lectures, and also held a briefing session for local travel agencies specializing in Korean tourism in Fukuoka to develop Expo-linked travel products.
Fukuoka is geographically close to Korea and has the highest number of tourists visiting Korea. It is also the region that received the most tourism-related inquiries during the Expo briefing sessions from local travel agencies. Tourism products consisting of day trips or 1-night 2-day trips passing through Sancheong Donguibogam Village attracted significant attention.
In particular, the experiential events such as herbal sitz baths and herbal constitution lectures were held together with the briefing sessions, receiving great interest and positive responses from locals.
An official from the Organizing Committee said, “This local briefing session was held at a time when overseas travel demand is surging due to the recent COVID-19 endemic in Japan, providing a good opportunity to offer local Korean specialized travel agencies valuable material for planning tourism products,” adding, “We will do our best to attract Japanese visitors by continuously building a network system with tourism-related organizations and travel agencies in Japan.”
