Jeonnam Province Accelerates Efforts to Create a Better Rural Living Environment
'Rural Vulnerable Area Living Condition Improvement Project' Selected Most Nationwide
Jeonnam Province is accelerating efforts to create a better rural environment, having been selected the most nationwide in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs' ‘2024 Rural Vulnerable Area Living Condition Improvement Project’.
In this contest, 134 villages nationwide applied, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs selected 108 locations through face-to-face evaluations. In Jeonnam, 29 locations (26.8% of the nation) were selected, securing 43.5 billion KRW in national funding.
The ‘Rural Vulnerable Area Living Condition Improvement Project’ is a bottom-up contest project where residents directly plan and promote necessary village projects with government support.
Through the project, living infrastructure such as vacant house and aging house repairs, slate roof improvements, fence and retaining wall maintenance, traditional toilet upgrades, and water supply and sewage system improvements are expanded.
Additionally, to revitalize the resident community, programs such as elderly care and health management, human care, and resident capacity-building projects are supported, resulting in very high resident participation and satisfaction.
The 29 villages selected this year will receive approximately 1.5 billion KRW in national funding per location over four years starting in 2024 to carry out the projects.
