KOTRA Appoints Kim Young-jae, LG Electronics Executive Director, as Korea Investment Promotion Ambassador
Accelerating High-Level Economic Cooperation and Investment Attraction through Key Political and Business Figures
On the 9th, KOTRA Invest Korea held a commissioning ceremony for Korean Investment Ambassadors (hereinafter Ambassadors) at its headquarters in Yeomgok-dong to promote high-level economic cooperation and expand investment attraction in the advanced industry sector.
The newly appointed Investment Ambassador, Youngjae Kim, Executive Director of LG Electronics, earned a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University in the United States and has worked at Velodyne, Apple, and other companies. He is recognized for having an extensive network in the advanced industry sector both domestically and internationally.
KOTRA Invest Korea, together with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, has appointed influential figures from politics and business circles of major countries as Ambassadors to promote investment in Korea and expand contacts with prominent overseas investors. In particular, given the recent emphasis on strengthening core industry competitiveness through the Korea-US advanced technology alliance, Executive Director Youngjae Kim, an expert in the robotics industry, was recruited as an Ambassador. Additionally, within this month, Thomas Byrne, Chairman of the Korea Society, and Alex Kim, CEO of Three King Public Affairs, will be appointed as Ambassadors to strengthen negotiation activities in the United States and secure expertise in attracting advanced strategic industries.
Thomas Byrne, newly appointed as an Ambassador, has worked to promote Korea-US friendly relations through the Korea Society, while Alex Kim has a rich network within the US government based on many years of experience in the US government. Furthermore, Executive Director Youngjae Kim is an authority in the robotics industry, serving as the Senior Research Fellow at LG Electronics’ Advanced Robotics Research Lab and currently as a member of the Robotics Advisory Group of the Consumer Technology Association in the United States.
Currently, Invest Korea operates a total of eight Ambassadors in seven countries including the United Kingdom and France. With this new appointment, the number will expand to 11 Ambassadors in eight countries, and in the mid to long term, to 20 Ambassadors in 15 countries, aiming to expand strategic investment attraction activities targeting local governments and senior corporate officials. The newly appointed Ambassadors will serve from June 1 until December next year and will actively promote Korea globally and attract investment through various promotional activities, including participation in the '2023 Invest Korea Summit.'
Youngjae Kim, Executive Director of LG Electronics and newly appointed Ambassador, said, "A strategic approach is very important in attracting advanced industry investments where countries around the world fiercely compete. Based on my expertise, I want to actively support Invest Korea’s efforts to attract advanced industry investments to Korea."
