Ruling Party "Democratic Party drags in Chinese Ambassador for a Show"... Japan's Radioactive Water Joint Response Criticized
Shin Won-sik "Lee Jae-myung reminds me of the yangban who caused the country's downfall in the late Joseon period"
Singh Haiming-Lee Jae-myung meeting even mentions the 'Samjeondo humiliation'
On the 9th, the People Power Party raised voices of criticism regarding the discussion between Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, and Xing Haiming, Chinese Ambassador to Korea, on joint measures against the "contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan."
Yoon Jae-ok, floor leader of the People Power Party, stated at a floor strategy meeting held at the National Assembly on the same day, "The Democratic Party's spreading of rumors and fake news, even involving the Chinese ambassador to stage a show, is a political tactic to divert public attention from the money envelope gate and Kim Nam-guk coin gate."

In response, Floor Leader Yoon directly called it "utterly absurd."
Yoon also pointed out, "Most of China's 55 nuclear power plants are concentrated along the eastern coast of China, adjacent to our West Sea, and the amount of tritium discharged from there is 50 times that of Fukushima's discharge. When the Fukushima discharge water reaches Korean waters in 4 to 5 years, tritium will be diluted to one 170,000th. If so, the Democratic Party should demand countermeasures from China before Japan."
When asked by reporters after the floor strategy meeting about the remarks that "Ambassador Xing first met with the opposition party leader and had a dinner at the official residence, opposing the discharge of Fukushima contaminated water," he replied, "I think it was an inappropriate conduct."
Shin Won-sik, ruling party secretary of the National Defense Committee, also pointed out at the meeting that day, "Ambassador Xing spoke harshly as if he were Yuan Shikai of the Qing Dynasty who came to Korea in the late Joseon period," and added, "He criticized and even mocked our government, which is the height of arrogance."
Shin said, "What is even more surprising is that Lee echoed him and even talked about joint countermeasures regarding the Fukushima contaminated water. Ignoring the new civilization wind blowing from the sea in the late Joseon period and relying on the Qing Dynasty and even Russia, what was the result? I am sure I am not the only one who is reminded of the reactionary feudal pro-China officials who caused the downfall of the country in the late Joseon period when seeing Lee's appearance."
He then asked Lee, "Is Sinocentrism your true intention?" and emphasized, "Do you think your conduct yesterday is appropriate as the leader of the largest party?"

Kang Min-guk, chief spokesperson of the People Power Party, also said in a commentary that day, "The meeting scene between Lee and Ambassador Xing even reminds one of the humiliation of Samjeondo, where we bowed down before the Qing Dynasty," and added, "It is heartbreaking to see the opposition party leader who uses diplomacy, where 'national interest' should be the top priority, for political strife, consistently shows a pro-China attitude, and tarnishes the status of the Republic of Korea and the face of its people."
