Gangseo-gu, Seoul, Holds Week-long Event to Commemorate World Environment Day
Designates June 5, Environment Day, to June 11 as Environment Week
Plans Various Events Including Environmental Film Screenings and Carbon Neutrality Quiz
Gangseo-gu, Seoul, announced on the 8th that it is holding an Environment Week event to commemorate the 28th World Environment Day.
The district has designated the period from June 5, Environment Day, to June 11 as Environment Week and is conducting various environmental protection programs to raise awareness of the importance of environmental protection and to spread a culture of practicing carbon neutrality.
On the first day of Environment Week, June 5, the Gangseo-gu 2050 Carbon Neutrality Citizen Practice Group conducted a plogging campaign, picking up trash around Balsan Station, a busy area with heavy foot traffic.
In line with achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, efforts were also made to strengthen employee capabilities. On the 7th, a resource circulation expert was invited to give a special lecture on this year’s World Environment Day theme, ‘Beat Plastic Pollution,’ and on upcycling that adds value to recyclables.
On June 5th, Environment Day, the Gangseo-gu 2050 Carbon Neutral Citizen Action Group conducted a plogging campaign, picking up trash around Balsan Station. Gangseo-gu has designated the period from the 5th to the 11th as Environment Week and is carrying out various environmental protection programs.
View original imageAdditionally, from the 7th to the 9th, the Gangseo-gu Environmental Education Center, Eco Long Long Cube, is conducting experiential and educational programs for local school staff, environmental organizations, and those in charge of carbon neutrality tasks.
To make environmental issues more accessible and understandable, a film screening event was also prepared. On the 8th, about 200 residents who had registered in advance attended the screening of the animation film Weathering with You, which deals with natural disasters caused by abnormal climate.
In celebration of Environment Week, the district is also holding a quiz event on carbon neutrality and climate change until the 11th. Among those who answer all 10 questions correctly, 200 people will be selected by lottery to receive coffee coupons worth about 10,000 won.
