Haenam-gun Recycles Abandoned Bicycles for Public Bike Rentals
Selected for Jeollanam-do Shared Bicycle Expansion Support Project... Implementation in the Second Half of This Year
Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do has been selected for the Jeollanam-do-led shared bicycle expansion support public contest.
According to the county on the 5th, this contest, conducted as a catalyst project to promote bicycle use, involves collecting abandoned and unnecessary bicycles, recycling them, and then renting them out as public bicycles at rental stations.
Initially, 100 bicycles will be collected and operated on a pilot basis. A total project budget of 200 million KRW will be invested to install rental stations, repair abandoned bicycles, and operate bicycle rentals. The rental service is scheduled to begin in October.
The county plans to equip safety gear when renting bicycles, hire repair technicians and other personnel to operate the rental stations, and provide safe bicycle education for residents to ensure stable operation.
By recycling abandoned bicycles that spoil the cityscape and cause inconvenience to pedestrians into new transportation means, it is expected to achieve a twofold effect of improving convenience for residents and enhancing the environment.
