Jung Yoo-jung "There Is a Different Culprit"... Lies from the First Investigation
Falsehood Revealed Through CCTV
Jung Yoo-jung (23), who killed a peer woman she met through a tutoring brokerage app and mutilated and abandoned the body, tried to deceive the police by saying in her first police investigation that "the real culprit is someone else."
According to JTBC on the 3rd, Jung Yoo-jung made this statement during her first police interrogation after being caught on the 27th of last month.
At the time, Jung stated that "when she arrived at the victim's house, an unknown person had already committed the murder, and that person told her to dispose of the body while letting her live as the victim."
Her lie was exposed after CCTV and other evidence confirmed that no one other than Jung had entered or left the victim's house.
A police official said, "She kept saying unbelievable things, rambling incoherently when first arrested," and added, "She denied the crime by saying things like 'the real culprit is someone else' or 'it happened accidentally during a quarrel with the victim,' but eventually confessed after evidence surfaced and her family persuaded her."
Jung Yoo-jung also claimed that she was in a state of diminished mental capacity at the time of the crime and reportedly said, "I will not make a statement until my lawyer arrives."
Digital forensic analysis of her cellphone and other devices revealed that Jung had been searching for keywords such as "murder without a body," "murder case," and "crime investigation specialized broadcast program" on her phone for about three months before the crime. She also borrowed crime-related novels from the library.
Jung, who was a job seeker, was arrested on charges of killing the victim at the victim's house in Geumjeong-gu, Busan, around 5:40 p.m. on the 26th of last month and abandoning the body. It was investigated that Jung tried to make it look like the victim had gone missing by disposing of the body along the Nakdong River, where she usually took walks.
