Since April, the province and the foundation have been accepting applications from cities, counties, and healing tourism sites and facilities, conducting in-depth evaluations including on-site assessments to select healing tourism sites.
A total of 10 sites were finally selected across four themes: Nature & Healing, Tradition & Living Culture, Healing & Meditation, and Beauty & Spa.
Imsil-gun’s Seongsusan Wang-ui Forest Ecotourism Site was selected under the Healing & Meditation theme, and plans to offer various healing programs utilizing Seongsusan’s natural environment and diverse facilities, such as cypress forest bathing, agricultural and mountain village healing content, and camping site-linked programs.
Additionally, through advanced consulting supported by the province and the foundation, new program development, travel agency-linked product development, and promotional marketing will be carried out to brand Seongsusan Ecotourism Site as a representative healing tourism destination not only in Jeollabuk-do but throughout South Korea.
The National Leisure Camping Site (14 decks, 6 caravans, 4 cabin houses) within Seongsusan Wang-ui Forest Ecotourism Site, which has been completed and is scheduled for pilot operation this month, is expected to attract a large number of family-oriented stay-type tourists, significantly contributing to the revitalization of Imsil’s tourism industry.
At Seongsusan Ecotourism Site, major facilities such as the experience center, Sangiam, cypress healing space, and ecological arboretum will be officially opened in the second half of this year to provide a suitable resting space for healing and recovery to modern people exhausted by urbanization and the changing environment due to the pandemic.
County Governor Shim Min said, “Since the pandemic, tourism trends have shifted toward safety, rest, and health, and accordingly, demand for tourism aimed at healing and relaxation is continuously increasing. From this perspective, Seongsusan Wang-ui Forest Ecotourism Site will serve as a foothold to open the era of ten million tourists in Imsil as a newly emerging representative healing tourism destination in Jeonbuk.”
