Assemblyman Song Gap-seok, Awarded 'Korea National Assembly Legislative Award' for 3 Consecutive Years
Song Gap-seok, Member of the National Assembly (Democratic Party of Korea·Gwangju Seo-gu Gap), received the ‘National Assembly Legislative Award of the Republic of Korea’ for the third consecutive year at the 75th National Assembly Opening Ceremony held on the 31st.
Including the ‘Excellent Legislator Award for Legislation and Policy Development’ in 2020, Assemblyman Song has been honored with the National Assembly Legislative Award hosted by the National Assembly for four consecutive years.
Since the establishment of the National Assembly Legislative Award in 2021, only two members of the 300-member National Assembly, including Assemblyman Song, have received the award for three consecutive years.
The ‘National Assembly Legislative Award of the Republic of Korea’ is the only award given by the National Assembly to evaluate and honor the legislative activities of its members on behalf of the people. It is considered the most prestigious award a member of the National Assembly can receive from the state.
The Legislative Award Screening Committee, composed of experts from various fields, reviews objective materials such as bills and activity reports to select recipients in categories including Excellent Legislator, Excellent Research Group of the National Assembly, Excellent Committee, and Excellent Bipartisan Cooperation Committee. Among them, 25 members are selected as recipients in the ‘Excellent Legislator’ category.
Assemblyman Song, who was selected as the recipient in the ‘Excellent Bill Representative (Excellent Legislator)’ category at this year’s Legislative Award, proposed the enacted bill titled the ‘Act on the Promotion of Smart Manufacturing Innovation for Small and Medium Enterprises (hereinafter referred to as the SME Smart Manufacturing Innovation Act).’
The SME Smart Manufacturing Innovation Act is the world’s first law that provides a national support framework to dramatically upgrade the manufacturing competitiveness of small and medium enterprises through big data technology, aimed at cost reduction and productivity improvement. It passed the National Assembly plenary session in December last year and is scheduled to be implemented in July this year.
Since the 20th National Assembly, Assemblyman Song has continuously monitored the policy status for revitalizing the manufacturing innovation ecosystem of small and medium enterprises through field visits to smart industrial complexes and national audits.
When drafting the SME Smart Manufacturing Innovation Act, he led the legislative process as the Democratic Party’s secretary of the Industry, Trade, Energy, Small and Medium Venture Business Committee, organizing legislative hearings, party-government and bipartisan consultations, and successfully guiding the bill’s passage.
