Boosting Tourism and Revitalizing the Local Economy

Nokdong Port in Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do is rapidly emerging as a hot spot for nighttime tourism killer content every Saturday.

This is because, adding a special taste and charm unique to Goheung Bay, every Saturday evening at 9 PM until November, 500 drones perform a drone show featuring various themes and productions against the backdrop of the night view of Nokdong Port and Sorok Bridge.

The 'Nokdong Port Drone Show,' planned as the first nighttime tourism-specialized product in the Jeollanam-do area, has attracted nationwide attention and interest with only its third performance, excluding shows postponed or canceled due to adverse weather such as strong winds, since its first performance on May 13.

Every week, the Nokdong Port area is bustling with visitors of all ages, including couples and families, filling not only the Nokdong Eel Street restaurants but also the Nokdong dried seafood and fresh fish centers, revitalizing the local commercial district.

Furthermore, it is analyzed that the weekend drone show performances, combined with local tourism and the promotion of agricultural, fishery, and livestock products, are significantly contributing directly and indirectly to the tourism economy's ripple effects.

The drone show features various themes related to Goheung, including seasonal and commemorative topics, presenting spectacular productions and offering new enjoyment to many tourists visiting Nokdong Port every week.

In particular, the Nokdong Port drone show is conducted by a drone-specialized company that develops new drone content combining innovative swarm flight technology and artistic sensibility, showcasing a unique charm of swarm flight to residents and tourists, greatly enhancing audience satisfaction.

Among the drone shows produced so far, on May 13, to celebrate Family Month, a three-dimensional display of love and gratitude among family members was presented with performances such as 'Bouquet,' 'Heart Flower Path,' and 'Carnation,' delivering an impressive spectacle of drone lights.

On May 20, to wish for the success of the third Nuri rocket launch, an event performance was held featuring themes like 'Goheung, the Center of the Space Industry,' 'Nuri Rocket Launch,' 'Satellite & Earth,' and 'Astronaut Greeting,' drawing applause and cheers from the audience.

Then, on May 25, to commemorate the 21st Nokdong Sea Fireworks Festival, a special performance with 1,000 drones?double the usual 500 drones of the Nokdong Port drone show?was held, showcasing advanced technology and three-dimensional drone light effects that captivated the audience’s eyes and ears.

Before each weekly drone show, the county has been praised for conducting the performances without a single safety accident by pre-deploying and training safety management personnel and cooperating with local volunteer organizations such as the Goheung Maritime Autonomous Patrol and the Model Drivers Association to prevent safety incidents.

Additionally, the county plans to thoroughly prepare by densely deploying event safety personnel around Nokdong Port until the drone show ends in November, ensuring no safety accidents occur and that the drone shows proceed safely and successfully every week.

A county official stated, “Since the regular drone shows have shown positive effects such as revitalizing the local economy and tourism, we will continue to deliver high-quality performances each time so that Goheung comes to mind when people think of ‘drone shows,’ thereby firmly establishing Goheung’s position as a ‘drone-centered city.’”
