Reopening Celebration, Local Artists Performance and Prize Event Held

Gwangyang City in Jeollanam-do announced that it will hold a performance by local artists starting at 11 a.m. on June 3rd (Saturday), the weekend market day, to continue the old reputation of the Jinsang 5-Day Market, which reopened on the 8th.

This event, organized by the Jinsang-myeon Village Chiefs Association (President Woo Je-bong), will feature invited performances by local artists and a customer raffle event to help the Jinsang 5-Day Market, with its 100-year tradition, grow into a market loved by the local community following its reopening.

The Gwangyang branch of the Korea Federation of Entertainment Artists, which sponsors the event, has prepared a variety of unique stages including performances by local singers, acoustic guitar shows, and fusion janggu drum performances to provide an enjoyable experience for customers visiting the traditional market.

Since its completion in October 2021, the Jinsang 5-Day Market has been operating eight stores including restaurants, chicken shops, cafes, snack bars, agricultural supplies, dried seafood, and rice cake shops. Additionally, 42 arcade-covered street stalls have been completed, currently selling items such as puffed rice snacks, clothing, shoes, seafood, fruits, and local agricultural specialties. Although small in scale, the market is steadily establishing itself as a traditional market.

Woo Je-bong, president of the Jinsang-myeon Village Chiefs Association, said, “Since the reopening of the Jinsang Market, it has become a place for local residents to consume and communicate,” adding, “To restore its former glory, local community organizations will take the lead and roll up their sleeves to revitalize the market.”

Meanwhile, the Jinsang 5-Day Market Promotion Committee plans to continue the lively atmosphere of the market by holding a special sale event as a Gwangyang City subsidized project during the event period.
