Gyeongnam National University Selected for Final Round of University Sports Team Evaluation and Support Project
Recording an Upward Trend for 3 Consecutive Years
Receiving a Total Support of 101 Million Won
Gyeongnam National University was recently selected as a final recipient in the ‘2023 University Sports Team Evaluation and Support Project’ organized by the Korea University Sports Federation (KUSF), receiving funding of 101 million KRW.
The ‘University Sports Team Support Project’ aims to improve the operational environment of university sports teams, strengthen university sports competitiveness, systematically nurture outstanding student-athletes, and enhance athletic performance. It provides support for training expenses, equipment costs, and competition participation fees to universities operating sports teams.
The project has a total budget of 7.4 billion KRW. The evaluation was based on four assessment areas: ▲university sports team’s own support ▲student-athlete recruitment and capabilities ▲coach recruitment and capabilities ▲social responsibility of university sports teams. A total of 42 items were evaluated on a 100-point scale, including 33 quantitative detailed evaluation items and 9 qualitative evaluation items.
As a result, Gyeongnam National University ranked 13th in funding among 130 universities nationwide that have sports teams and participated in this support project. With this selection, Gyeongnam National University has recorded a rising trend for three consecutive years, ranking 42nd in 2021, 24th in 2022, and now 13th, receiving 101 million KRW in funding from the Korea University Sports Federation.
So far, Gyeongnam National University has actively operated teams such as baseball, shooting, wrestling, Ssireum, and Taekwondo, focusing on systematic training and know-how, establishing itself as a cradle for nurturing sports talents by achieving excellent results in nationwide competitions.
