Five Busan-Based Companies Donate 1 Billion KRW to Support 2030 Expo Bid
With just over six months remaining until the decision on hosting the 2030 Busan World Expo, five local companies have joined forces to generously donate a large sum of 1 billion KRW to support Busan City’s all-out efforts.
On the 26th at 11 a.m., Busan City and the 2030 Busan World Expo Citizens’ Committee (Citizens’ Committee) held the ‘2030 Busan World Expo Hosting Support Donation Ceremony’ in the protocol room of City Hall.
At the ceremony, Mayor Park Hyung-joon and representatives from the five donating companies participating in the 2030 Busan World Expo support campaign attended. Mayor Park, representing Busan City, personally received the donations from the company representatives and expressed his gratitude to each of them.
The five companies participating in this donation are ▲Koryo Steel (Chairman Hong Young-cheol) ▲Seowon Distribution (CEO Kim Byung-chan) ▲Kookmin Bank Busan·Ulsan·Gyeongnam Regional Group (CEO Lee Hyuk) ▲Jongno Electric (CEO Park Dong-chun) ▲Hyosung Electric (CEO Jung Jin-geun).
The entire amount of the donation will be handed over to the Citizens’ Committee and is expected to be mostly used for Busan City’s all-out efforts until the decision moment in November, including lobbying activities targeting member countries of the International Bureau of Expositions.
Mayor Park Hyung-joon said, “The wave of donations from local companies, which has been gaining momentum since last year, is becoming even more concentrated as this year marks the first year of the hosting campaign. We sincerely thank the companies for their valuable participation, and Busan City will do its utmost until the final announcement as the host city of the 2030 World Expo.”
He added, “I am confident that hosting and successfully holding the 2030 Busan World Expo will become a new growth engine for Busan and, furthermore, for the Republic of Korea. Over the remaining six months, we will focus even more on vote-gathering activities by utilizing two upcoming competitive presentations (PT) and symposia for member countries.”
