Gangnam-gu Hosts Humanities Concert Celebrating 100th Anniversary of Reggae's Birth
Gangnam-gu and Budapest District 5 Sister Cities, Lecture by Professor Lee Hee-kyung and Gangnam Symphony Orchestra Performance on the 25th at the District Office 1st Floor
Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) held the May Humanities Concert "A Musical and Cultural Journey to Hungary" at the district office on the 25th.
Budapest District 5 in Hungary is a sister city of Gangnam-gu. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Gy?rgy Ligeti, a world-renowned composer from Hungary, the event was hosted and organized by the Small Library Makers Association, the Hungarian Cultural Center in Korea, and the Korea-Hungary Friendship Association, with support from Gangnam-gu.
Professor Lee Hee-kyung, who wrote her doctoral dissertation on Ligeti at the Berlin University of the Arts, gave a lecture explaining Hungarian music and culture as well as Ligeti's works. The Gangnam Symphony Orchestra performed Ligeti's Cello Sonata 1st movement "Dialogues" and Woodwind Quintet "Six Bagatelles." Over 150 audience members enjoyed a high-quality live performance while tasting Hungarian wine provided by the Hungarian Cultural Center in Korea.
The concert was attended by Istv?n S?rk?zy, Ambassador of Hungary to Korea; Istv?n Medveczky, Director of the Liszt Hungarian Cultural Center in Korea; and No Jae-heon, President of the Korea-Hungary Friendship Association, demonstrating the strong friendship with Gangnam-gu.
