Goheung-gun Selected for General Rural Agricultural and Fishing Village Development Contest

Development Project in Duwon Area Secures 4 Billion KRW in Funding

Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) announced that it has been finally selected in the ‘2024 New General Agricultural and Fishing Village Development Project’ contest hosted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, securing a total project cost of 4 billion KRW.

The general agricultural and fishing village development project aims to improve the income and basic living standards of fishing village residents, expand customized living SOC facilities, and promote the improvement of residential conditions in fishing villages and the revitalization of the local economy.

Goheung-gun regarded this project as essential to boost the vitality of fishing villages and has been putting all its efforts into being selected in the contest again this year following last year.

With cooperation among local residents, experts, and administration, the project plan tailored to the local conditions was reestablished through residents’ meetings and surveys, and all efforts were made to persuade the judges, resulting in the final selection of the ‘Duwon Area Happy Living Space Creation Project.’

Goheung-gun plans to invest a total of 4 billion KRW over four years from 2024 to 2027 to carry out ▲ remodeling of Duwon Community Center and Central Senior Citizens’ Center ▲ improvement of pedestrian and vehicle roads (480m) within the township center ▲ maintenance of Daejeon Beach, among other projects.

Governor Gong Young-min said, “Through this contest selection, we can promote a regionally specialized project reflecting the characteristics of the Duwon area,” adding, “We will do our best to revitalize fishing villages and the local economy through this project and respond to local extinction.”

Goheung-gun plans to carry out the project thoroughly from establishing the basic plan to completion in cooperation with the residents’ promotion committee and will continue to actively discover competitive villages and do its best for regionally specialized development.
