"Condemnation of Yoon Administration's Suppression of Korea Energy University"…Citizen Group Statement
Gwangju Economic Justice Practice Federation Issues Statement on the 25th
"Stop the Oppression of Korea Energy University"
A civic group in the Gwangju area has called for the suspension of the political audit of the 'Korea Energy Engineering University.'
The Gwangju Federation of Economic Justice Practice issued a statement on the 25th condemning, "Stop the oppression of Korea Energy Engineering University (KENTECH)."
The Federation stated, "Recently, the Board of Audit and Inspection under the Yoon Seok-yeol administration conducted a large-scale audit, spreading allegations of preferential treatment by the Moon Jae-in administration regarding the establishment of Korea Energy Engineering University," adding, "This is an act that undermines the purpose and intent of KENTECH's establishment, and we strongly condemn the government for distorting facts related to the university's founding."
They also pointed out, "The establishment of Korea Energy Engineering University is not preferential treatment for the Gwangju-Jeonnam Joint Innovation City," and "The government only provided minimal support such as approval for establishment, so it should not claim preferential treatment by the previous administration."
Furthermore, the Federation emphasized, "Korea Energy Engineering University was established for the future of KEPCO, and energy security is essential for national survival. KENTECH was founded to prepare for a national energy security crisis."
They appealed, "During the establishment process of KENTECH, Jeollanam-do and Naju City jointly bore a huge contribution amounting to 200 billion won, which was a will for regional development, not political favoritism, and the government did not provide a single won of tax money. How can this be considered preferential treatment?"
