The newly opened disability-friendly obstetrics and gynecology department is characterized by its ability to provide delivery and emergency care for high-risk pregnant women 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. During outpatient visits, obstetric examinations and ultrasound tests are all conducted in a single consultation room. The outpatient clinic, delivery room, ward, neonatal unit, and restrooms exclusively for people with disabilities are all located on the same floor, allowing patients to receive necessary services conveniently. A fetal center and a rare disease center, capable of multidisciplinary care in cases of suspected fetal abnormalities or rare incurable genetic diseases, will also be operated together.
In particular, through this disability-friendly obstetrics and gynecology project, Seoul National University Hospital installed handrails and braille block signs along patient movement paths and carried out restroom renovations to secure wheelchair maneuvering space. Additionally, disability-friendly equipment such as ▲wheelchair scales ▲special wheelchairs ▲portable electric lifts ▲electric wheelchair chargers ▲adult diaper changing tables have been introduced to provide convenience during medical care for women with disabilities.
Kim Young-tae, President of Seoul National University Hospital, said, "We are very pleased that women with disabilities can now receive medical services more conveniently and safely through this disability-friendly obstetrics and gynecology project," adding, "As a national central hospital practicing public healthcare, we will continue to take the lead in fulfilling our fundamental social responsibilities."
Park Jung-shin, Vice President of Medical Affairs at Seoul National University Hospital, stated, "Women with disabilities have faced many difficulties in receiving medical care because, despite the need for cooperation with other departments due to various medical issues, facilities, equipment, and personnel support have not been adequately provided until now," and added, "We expect that women will be able to receive high-quality medical care through the opening of this disability-friendly obstetrics and gynecology department."
Meanwhile, the opening ceremony of the disability-friendly obstetrics and gynecology department, attended by officials from the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Seoul Metropolitan Government, and National Medical Center, was held on the 22nd at the outpatient obstetrics and gynecology clinic on the 3rd floor of the main building of Seoul National University Hospital.
