Truck Crashes Into Security Barrier Near White House Late at Night
Secret Service "Under Investigation"
In Lafayette Square near the White House in Washington DC, USA, a truck crashed into a security barrier late at night, and the cause of the accident is under investigation.
On the 22nd (local time), Anthony Guglielmi, spokesperson for the United States Secret Service, posted on Twitter, "No personnel from the Secret Service or the White House were injured, and the cause and manner of the collision are still being investigated."
The accident occurred around 10 PM that night. The Secret Service immediately detained the driver of the cargo truck and is verifying their identity.
The Secret Service also stated that they are investigating whether the incident was intentional and added that nearby roads and pedestrian pathways have been closed while the on-site investigation is underway.
According to Fox News and others, the incident caused a commotion as guests at nearby hotels evacuated.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Washington Fire Department reported that at around 9:40 PM that day, a suspicious package was reported, and all departments are on standby to provide necessary support for the investigation.
