"Unacceptable Incident Occurred, Heavy Sense of Responsibility"
"I and the Responsible Parties Will Bear Appropriate Accountability"
On April 23, an incident occurred in which the written answer sheets for the first practical test of the regular Engineer and Industrial Engineer exams were shredded before being graded due to an error by the Korea Industrial Human Resources Corporation.
Accordingly, the Corporation plans to individually contact 609 examinees and guide them to take a retest. Oh Su-bong, the director of the Corporation, issued an apology statement and stated, "We will take corresponding responsibility."
On the 23rd, the Corporation recognized the omission of answer sheets during the recent grading process of the written portion of the first practical test for the regular Engineer and Industrial Engineer exams and confirmed through an internal investigation that the answer sheets had been shredded.
The first practical test for the regular Engineer exam, held on April 23 at Yeonseo Middle School in Seoul, had 609 examinees across 61 categories, including Construction Machinery Equipment Engineer. After the exam ended, the answer sheets from the test site were packed in sacks and transported to the Seoul Western Branch of the Corporation.
Subsequently, due to an error during the handover process, the sack containing the answer sheets was not delivered to the Corporation’s grading center and was shredded, according to the investigation.
The Corporation plans to individually contact all 609 examinees to apologize and explain the follow-up measures.
First, to ensure that examinees do not suffer disadvantages in utilizing their qualifications, such as applying for civil service exams, an additional test opportunity will be provided from June 1 to 4.
Measures will be taken to announce the test results on the originally scheduled date of June 9, when the passers of the first regular Engineer and Industrial Engineer practical test are announced.
Additionally, other examinees will be given an opportunity to take the additional test on June 24 and 25 so as not to interfere with the registration for the second regular Engineer and Industrial Engineer exams, and those who do not wish to take the test will be refunded their fees.
For the additional test, examinees can choose one day to take the exam during the total six days (June 1?4 and June 24?25). Considering accessibility, support will be provided to allow examinees to take the test at Corporation-affiliated institutions in their preferred regions.
Director Oh Su-bong apologized at the Government Seoul Office regarding the answer sheet shredding incident, saying, "As a public institution that must guarantee the fairness and reliability of national qualifications, I feel a heavy responsibility for this unacceptable incident."
Director Oh emphasized, "We will thoroughly investigate this accident to identify the mistakes, and I, along with the responsible parties, will take corresponding responsibility."
