Busan Gijang-gun's Book of the Year, 'Gisoyeong-ui Chingudeul' Final Selection
Busan Gijang-gun has finally selected "Gisoyoung's Friends" (written by Jeong Eun-ju / published by Sagyejeol) as this year’s book.
Now in its 6th year, the "Gijang-gun Book of the Year" is one of the reading lifestyle projects promoted to create a culture city of reading in Gijang, where the local community reads one book together and participates in reading activities.
Since March, the Gijang-gun Public Library has selected three final candidate books through meetings of a hub library council composed of reading-related institution practitioners and a selection committee made up of reading experts, from among literary award-winning works and books recommended by reading-related organizations.
Then, until April, an online and offline preference vote was conducted among local residents, and Jeong Eun-ju’s "Gisoyoung's Friends" received 41.9% of the votes, being finally selected as Gijang-gun’s Book of the Year.
"Gisoyoung's Friends" is a children’s coming-of-age story depicting the process of mourning and solidarity as the protagonist seeks out the death of a friend on their own.
A Gijang-gun official said, “We will contribute to forming a consensus among residents and creating an atmosphere of reading by developing a county-wide reading movement where the entire local community reads and discusses together.”
