"Luxury Gucci, Afterparty Was Cheap" Controversy Fallout
Professor Seokyeongdeok "Lack of Global Manners"
52 Complaints Related to Gucci Show Afterparty
Italian luxury brand Gucci sparked a 'public nuisance' controversy by holding an after-party for its fashion show late into the night in the heart of downtown Seoul, prompting Professor Seokyung Deok from Sungshin Women's University to strongly criticize Gucci.
On the 18th, Professor Seo posted on his Facebook, "A commotion involving the police occurred at the after-party of the luxury brand Gucci's fashion show held in the middle of Seoul, causing a major controversy," adding, "The fashion show was truly 'luxury,' but the after-party was 'cheap'."
He continued, "The party celebrating the success of the fashion show played loud music and projected laser lights in all directions late into the night, causing great distress to nearby residents trying to sleep."
He further stated, "Gucci only issued a brief apology saying, 'We deeply apologize for the noise and other inconveniences experienced by residents due to the after-party held after the fashion show on the 16th,' which lacks sincerity. This shows a lack of 'global manners,'" delivering a sharp critique.

Earlier, on the 16th, Gucci held the '2024 Cruise Fashion Show' at Gyeongbokgung Geunjeongjeon, drawing significant attention. This show was Gucci's first cruise fashion show held in Asia, with numerous famous domestic and international stars attending to brighten the event.
After the show ended, noise continued from nearby buildings until around 12:20 a.m. the next day, sparking controversy. Residents expressed their distress on social media, saying, "I can't sleep because of the laser lights," and "The music is too loud."
The Jongno Police Station in Seoul reported that from 9:29 p.m. to midnight on the 16th, 52 complaints related to the Gucci show after-party were received. The police also took measures to move illegally parked vehicles near the venue. During this process, nine patrol cars and a riot squad were deployed.
On the 17th, Gucci stated, "We deeply apologize for the noise and other inconveniences experienced by residents due to the after-party held after the fashion show."
Meanwhile, this was also the first time a fashion show was held at Gyeongbokgung Geunjeongjeon. Although it attracted industry attention in many ways, it seems unavoidable that the brief apology and ensuing controversy have left a negative image.
