Gang Riders Arrested for Frenzied Racing on the Eve of 5·18
A group that engaged in reckless driving a day before the May 18 Democratic Movement commemoration ceremony was caught by the police.
On the 18th, the Gwangsan Police Station in Gwangju announced that they had booked a total of 28 individuals in their teens to twenties on charges including drunk driving, unlicensed driving, and joint dangerous acts under the Road Traffic Act.
They are accused of gathering in groups and speeding dangerously on roads in Imbangul-daero, Suwan-dong, Gwangsan-gu, and around Gwangju Station in Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, from 7 p.m. on the 17th until 5 a.m. the following day, making loud noises and driving threateningly.
It was investigated that they planned the reckless driving through social networking services (SNS) before carrying out the acts.
Some were caught driving passenger cars while intoxicated.
