Dongwon Industries Wins 'Company of the Year' Award at MSC Korea Awards
Dongwon Industries announced on the 18th that it has won the ‘Company of the Year’ award for the second consecutive time at the ‘2nd MSC Korea Awards.’
The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is the most prestigious global non-profit organization in the sustainable seafood sector, selecting and awarding companies that have contributed to the spread of sustainable seafood across the entire marine and fisheries industry, including fishing and distribution.
MSC promotes sustainable fisheries and seafood ecosystems through rigorous certification. The MSC certification is granted after evaluating over 30 criteria throughout the fishing process, including marine ecosystem and species protection and compliance with international regulations. Seafood products that receive certification can bear the MSC ecolabel.
As the largest seafood company in Korea, Dongwon Industries became the first domestic fishing company operating purse seine and longline vessels to receive MSC certification for both purse seine fishing (for canned tuna) and longline fishing (for sashimi-grade tuna) since 2019. Additionally, it has obtained the MSC CoC (Chain of Custody) certification, which is awarded to companies that process and distribute sustainable seafood, leading transparent management of all processes from catch to manufacturing, distribution, and sales.
Furthermore, Dongwon Industries is the only Korean member of ‘SeaBOS,’ a global consortium of seafood companies, and demonstrates leadership in creating a sustainable fisheries environment by engaging in international activities such as the Fishery Improvement Project (FIP) for sustainable fishing.
