Hong Joon-pyo: "If Veto Power Is Repeatedly Exercised, Democratic Party Will Be Disadvantaged"
Harsh Criticism of 'Incompetence' Directed at People Power Party
Regarding President Yoon Suk-yeol's veto of the Nursing Act, which was led and passed by the Democratic Party of Korea, Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo predicted, "If the veto is repeated, the disadvantaged camp in next year's general election will be the Democratic Party."
On the 17th, Mayor Hong said through his social media (SNS), "Where in Korea would there be citizens who would turn a president with more than half of his term remaining into a figurehead president?" In other words, he defended President Yoon's veto.
President Yoon exercised his veto on the Nursing Act bill the day before, and in response, Park Kwang-on, the Democratic Party floor leader, criticized, "Veto politics is endangering the separation of powers." Nurses have announced plans to begin collective action.
Mayor Hong said, "If the ruling party continues its legislative rampage that not only intensifies conflicts between professional groups but also exists solely to shield Lee Jae-myung, our people will have no choice left," adding, "The Democratic Party is currently only causing confusion and making a shortsighted mistake by attacking the Yoon Suk-yeol administration."

While defending President Yoon, Mayor Hong also criticized the People Power Party as "incompetent." He said, "If the Democratic Party's problem lies in the incurable corruption of figures like Lee Jae-myung, Song Young-gil, and Kim Nam-guk, then the People Power Party's problem is incompetence and powerlessness," adding, "The People Power Party must quickly regain leadership and transform into a competent ruling party."
