"Is There a Better Way to Teach Economic Education to Elementary, Middle, and High School Students?" ... Gyeongbuk Provincial Council Launches Development Research Project
The Gyeongbuk Provincial Council's 'Gyeongsangbuk-do Economic Education Development Research Group' (led by Representative Yoon Jong-ho) held a kickoff meeting for the 'Research Project on Improving Economic Education for Children and Adolescents in Gyeongsangbuk-do' on the 17th at The Nock, a humanities cafe in Gumi.
This research project is being conducted to propose policies on the direction and strategies for promoting Gyeongbuk-style economic education by benchmarking excellent cases related to economic education based on a survey and analysis of the current status of economic education for elementary, middle, and high school students in Gyeongbuk Province. The research is scheduled to be conducted over three months.

View original imageAt the meeting, Gyeongbuk Provincial Council member Hwang Doo-young pointed out, "While the education level in our country is higher than other countries, the economic education learning ability is actually lower." He especially noted, "Although curiosity and interest in current economic education are high, the understanding and education of the economy among students, teachers, and parents are very insufficient. Therefore, it is necessary to actively introduce pilot projects by region and school level to improve economic education understanding among students, teachers, and parents."
Yoon Jong-ho, the representative of the research group and a member of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Council, pointed out, "According to the Ministry of Strategy and Finance's 2022 Economic Literacy Survey, the economic literacy of elementary and high school students in Gyeongbuk is low compared to other cities and provinces." He emphasized, "Through this research project, we will additionally improve the economic education understanding of teachers and parents and ensure that children receive thorough economic education from their parents."

Council member Yoon added, "We will also focus our legislative capabilities at the council level to find ways to enhance the economic literacy of youth, the future leaders, through economic education tailored to the current status of Gyeongbuk."
