Gwangjin-gu Initiates Installation of Eco-Friendly Sanitary Pest Insecticides
Full Effort to Eradicate the Rapidly Increasing Oriental Mayfly Due to Recent Abnormal Weather... Additional Installation of Insect Killers
Expanded Operation to 44 Units Mainly in Major Habitats Such as Mountains, Parks, and Residential Areas Around the Han River
Eco-friendly Method Using Light Wavelength (UV-LED), Also Effective in Preventing Summer Mosquitoes
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is adding ‘hygienic pest insect killers’ to prevent damage to residents caused by insects such as the recently surging Oriental Mayfly.
Due to recent abnormal climate, large mayflies have appeared in swarms, causing discomfort among residents. Although they are not hygienic pests that transmit infectious diseases, they are attracted to bright light and gather in large numbers, easily causing disgust and inconvenience in daily life.
Accordingly, the district immediately began installing ‘hygienic pest insect killers.’ An additional 44 insect killers will be operated mainly in residential areas, parks, and along the Han River where insects are prone to appear. Currently, 66 units are installed in places with high foot traffic such as Dongseoul Terminal and traditional markets, and the number of installations will be increased to build a more thorough quarantine network.
The ‘hygienic pest insect killer’ is a device that uses the light wavelength (UV-LED) favored by insects to attract and eliminate pests. It is effective not only against the Oriental Mayfly but also summer mosquitoes. As it is an eco-friendly method rather than chemical control, it does not cause environmental pollution.
This time, installations will be concentrated in Achasan, Children’s Grand Park, and residential areas near the Han River. These areas were selected as major habitats of pests and regions with frequent complaints. Installation is expected to be completed within this month, and the insect killers will operate until November to proactively prevent damage.
