Kyungam Education and Culture Foundation Chairperson Jin Aeon Donates 100 Million KRW Development Fund to Dongmyung University
On the 15th, Jin Aeon, director of the Gyeongam Education and Culture Foundation, donated 100 million won in development funds to Dongmyung University. The funds are planned to be used for scholarships for outstanding students and research expenses for excellent professors.
The Gyeongam Education and Culture Foundation is a non-profit organization established in 2004 by Song Geumjo, former chairman of the Taeyang Group (1923?2020), who donated 100 billion won of his private wealth.
Chairman Song Geumjo aimed to nurture talented individuals who would contribute to national development through the Gyeongam Education and Culture Foundation and to contribute to the advancement of academic, cultural, and artistic activities that enhance social values and quality of life.
The Gyeongam Education and Culture Foundation supports academic projects and has established the Gyeongam Award, which it presents annually. Up to 2022, 18 award ceremonies have been held, and it is regarded as a prestigious award, offering the largest prize money in South Korea.
The late Chairman Song Geumjo and his wife, Director Jin Aeon, donated 30.5 billion won to Pusan National University in 2003, which was the highest amount in the history of donations in South Korea at that time.
Song Geumjo, a local entrepreneur from Busan who returned his entire fortune, accumulated through a lifetime of business and frugality, to society, passed away in 2020 due to a chronic illness.
Director Jin Aeon was awarded the “Order of Civil Merit, Dongbaek Medal” by the government in 2017 for her significant contributions to transparent and sound private school management and the development of education in South Korea.
