Gwangju Seo-gu 'Barrier-Free City Resident Participation Group' Launch Ceremony
Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City is accelerating the creation of a “barrier-free city” that is safe and convenient for everyone through the establishment of public-private governance.
On the 15th, Seo-gu announced that it held the inauguration ceremony of the “1st Barrier-Free City Resident Participation Group” at Deulbul Hall in Seo-gu Office.
The Resident Participation Group consists of 20 residents who are highly interested in policies related to barrier-free cities, such as mobility rights for the transportation disadvantaged, non-discriminatory communication, and disability awareness improvement.

For two years, they will engage in various activities including monitoring and providing improvement suggestions from a barrier-free perspective, proposing new initiatives and policy directions for creating a barrier-free city, and conducting awareness improvement campaigns.
They will also carry out community empathy group activities, actively addressing local issues by sharing diverse experiences in daily life such as residential environments, cultural facilities, and sports facilities.
Kim Ikang, Mayor of Seo-gu, said, “We will gather strength and wisdom to actively support the creation of ‘Barrier-Free Seo-gu,’ where all residents have equal rights and opportunities, live comfortably, and can safely use all facilities.”
Meanwhile, Seo-gu has been accelerating efforts to create a non-discriminatory barrier-free city and realize resident-centered policies, starting with the enactment of the “Ordinance for the Creation of a Barrier-Free City in Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City” in December last year.
