Korea Airports Corporation Partners with Japan's Kansai Airport Group for "UAM Commercialization"
Korea Airports Corporation announced on the 15th that it discussed plans to establish a strategic partnership with Kansai Airport Group in Osaka, Japan, to commercialize Urban Air Mobility (UAM) ahead of the 2025 Osaka Expo.
President Yoon Hyung-jung promised to mutually research and share related information with Kansai Airport Group executives, including CEO Yamaya Yoshiyuki and co-CEO Beno?t Hlo, regarding Japan’s preparations for UAM commercialization to be showcased at the 2025 Osaka Expo, covering overall traffic management such as UAM vertiports and manufacturers.

View original imageAdditionally, both sides agreed to strengthen a dense air network that surpasses pre-COVID-19 levels, not only by increasing existing routes in the Osaka area but also by opening new routes between regional cities in both countries.
Yoon Hyung-jung, President of Korea Airports Corporation, stated, “While maintaining a strategic partnership with Japan’s Kansai Airport Group, we will do our best to increase routes between regional airports in both countries and realize the commercialization of UAM by 2025.”
Kansai Airport Group operates three airports: Kansai International Airport, Itami Airport, and Kobe Airport. From the 16th, they will host the 18th Airports Council International (ACI) Asia-Pacific Regional Assembly for three days in Kobe.

Japan is currently preparing for UAM commercialization by forming a government-led UAM task force, selecting vertiport operators and aircraft operators for UAM flights during the Expo period. They have established a cooperative system with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for aircraft certification. Four candidate sites for UAM vertiports, including the Expo venue, have been selected, and final installation and operation are under review.
