Gwangju Buk-gu, Full Effort for the 43rd Anniversary Ceremony of the May 18 Democratic Uprising
Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is launching extensive support efforts to ensure the successful hosting of the 43rd anniversary ceremony of the May 18 Democratic Uprising and to foster a commemorative atmosphere.
According to Buk-gu on the 15th, support measures for the May 18 Democratic Uprising commemorative events and independent events will be prepared and promoted until the end of this month.
First, to create a pleasant environment for paying respects, street vendors, roadside debris, and illegal advertisements around the National May 18 Democratic Cemetery and major arterial roads will be cleaned up, and tree pruning, weeding, and special cleaning will be carried out.
On the day of the ceremony, guides will be stationed at key points on the access roads to the venue to facilitate smooth traffic flow and assist visitors by providing cemetery guidance and bottled water as part of volunteer activities.
Additionally, various independent events to promote the history and spirit of the May 18 Democratic Uprising will be held throughout the district.
On the 17th, the May Human Rights Road walking pilgrimage will take place with the participation of 518 residents. On the 21st, a unique rice ball making contest will be held at the Namdo Local Food Museum; on the 26th, the May Music Concert will be held at Ilgok 2nd Neighborhood Park; and on the 27th, the May 18 Commemorative Resident Cultural Event will be held around the May Road area.
In particular, on the 17th, the May First Neighborhood Cultural Fringe Festival, held at the main gate of Chonnam National University, the No. 1 May 18 historic site, will feature a variety of performances, exhibitions, and experiential programs themed around the May 18 Democratic Uprising.
