CJ Logistics to Produce Delivery Boxes Made from Recycled Waste Paper
CJ Logistics announced on the 15th that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with SK Ecoplant and corrugated cardboard company Taerim Packaging to establish and expand an independent paper resource recycling system.
Through this agreement, the three companies will jointly develop recycled boxes that can be practically used at CJ Logistics' distribution centers. These boxes will be made using approximately 5,000 tons of packaging boxes and documents generated annually from CJ Logistics' distribution centers nationwide. The produced boxes will first be used at CJ Logistics' Gunpo Fulfillment Center (a logistics center overseeing storage, delivery, returns, and other logistics services). Subsequently, they plan to use them at over 400 distribution centers nationwide. CJ Logistics uses about 30 million delivery boxes annually.

Transparency is ensured through traceability management of the source of recycled materials and the production process.

Considering post-use recycling, CJ Logistics also changed the box design. They minimized ink usage and applied single-color printing using only one color on the box surface. Instead, they added a phrase indicating "Recycled box produced through closed loop recycling" to enhance the eco-friendly image.
Along with this, they established the logistics industry's first "closed-loop system." A closed-loop system refers to a resource circulation system that produces recycled products using waste generated internally, thereby saving resources and reducing carbon emissions.
In the second half of last year, the stockpile of waste paper reached 150,000 tons, double the usual stockpile of 70,000 to 80,000 tons. This is the result of a sharp decline in domestic and international demand for waste paper due to economic recession and China's refusal to import waste. Waste paper has a large volume relative to its weight, making it difficult to handle when stockpiled. The introduction of recycled boxes is expected to help alleviate the waste paper backlog.
