Thief Who Dropped 20 Diamonds on the Street... Police Recover Them
Thief "I did throw a box on the road"
Police recovered it after searching along the escape route
A thief who robbed a jewelry store unknowingly discarded a box containing 20 diamonds on the road while fleeing. These diamonds were eventually recovered by the police and returned to the victim.
According to the Uijeongbu Police Station on the 14th, around 2:50 a.m. on the 2nd, a man in his 50s, Mr. A, broke into a jewelry store in Uijeongbu City by smashing the glass door with a hammer and stole precious metals before escaping. The police tracked him through closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and arrested Mr. A at a motel in Incheon two days later.
It was confirmed that Mr. A stole precious metals worth about 40 million won and had already sold some of them.
However, the jewelry box containing 20 diamonds valued at about 12 million won, which the jewelry store owner claimed was stolen, was not found in the list of goods Mr. A traded or recovered items. Mr. A stated, "I have never seen the diamonds."
Nevertheless, Mr. A said, "While driving, I discarded a box full of business cards on the Dongbu Expressway heading from Uijeongbu to Seoul," and the police judged that this box was likely the jewelry box.
The police conducted a search along the Dongbu Expressway route where Mr. A fled immediately after the incident, and on the morning of the 8th,
they found the box lying in the grass beyond the roadside guardrail. Inside the box, beneath the business cards, were 20 diamonds.
A police official explained, "The discovery site was near the beginning of the escape route, so the search did not take long, and fortunately, it was not a place frequented by people. The victim almost suffered a property loss worth tens of millions of won, but the diamonds were safely recovered."
