Ourhome Holds First Anniversary Memorial for Late Chairman Koo Jahak... "Inheriting His Management Philosophy"
On May 12, Ourhome announced that it held a memorial service at its Magok headquarters in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, to mark the first anniversary of the passing of the late Chairman Koo Jahak and to pay tribute to him.

The memorial service was attended by Vice Chairman Koo Jieun of Ourhome, as well as business leaders who had connections with the late chairman in the past, and Ourhome executives and employees. The ceremony began with a moment of silence, followed by an introduction of the late chairman's biography and life story, a commemorative video, a floral tribute, and remarks from a family representative.
In her remarks as the family representative, Vice Chairman Koo Jieun of Ourhome stated, "The greatest happiness in my life is to follow in my father's footsteps," adding, "My father's challenges and successes laid a solid foundation for the development of Korea's economy."
She continued, "Although my father is no longer with us, I am still constantly learning from the legacy and words he left behind," and added, "He was always willing to take on new challenges and valued both employees and people. I will strive to inherit his management philosophy and grow into a true manager and leader."
During the memorial service, a video was also played highlighting Chairman Koo's major achievements and reflecting on his management philosophy.
Koo Jahak, founder of Ourhome and known by the pen name Jisu, was born in Jinju, Gyeongsangnam-do, as the third son of the late Koo Inhoe, the founder of LG Group. Chairman Koo is recognized as a businessman who, from 1960 to 2022, dedicated himself to the principle of "business patriotism," believing that business should contribute to national prosperity and the improvement of people's lives. He also served in the Korean War and devoted his life to the country, receiving multiple military honors for his service.
Chairman Koo began his career in 1960 working at the counter of Hanil Bank, then served as head of accounting at Ulsan Fertilizer, planning manager at CheilJedang, executive director at Geumseong Sales, and vice president at Geumseong Communications, gaining experience in planning, accounting, and sales. He went on to lead companies as CEO, including Gwangup Smelting, the first president of Hotel Shilla, Joongang Development (now Samsung C&T), Lucky (now LG Chem), Geumseongsa (now LG Electronics), Geumseong Electron (now SK hynix), and LG Construction (now GS Engineering & Construction).
In 1981, Lucky developed Perioe toothpaste, which helped prevent gum disease-a product not previously available in Korea. In 1983, the company produced plastic PBT for the first time in Korea, marking a turning point in the country's chemical industry. In 1989, Geumseong Electron developed the world's first Rambus DRAM semiconductor. In 1995, LG Engineering became the first Korean company to win a Japanese plant project, outperforming major Japanese firms.

After founding Ourhome in 2000, Chairman Koo established the industry's first food research institute and central kitchen. Through these efforts, he developed Korean sauce and natural cooking flavors. In 2010, he also became the first in the industry to enter the overseas market by launching a group catering business in China. In 2016, he opened the East Seoul Logistics Center, the first in the industry equipped with automated food ingredient sorting capabilities.
