Went outside alone during yard outdoor activity
Realized after about 20 minutes and started searching late
Found by driver on the road and protected by police
At a daycare center in Seoul, a 2-year-old girl went outside alone and was found on a four-lane road several hundred meters away. A passing driver discovered the child and handed her over to the police, but the parents filed a complaint against the daycare center for poor supervision.
On the 5th of last month, YTN reported on the 12th that a 2-year-old girl, A, who was playing outdoors in the yard of a daycare center in Seoul, went outside the daycare center’s door.
The closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage around the daycare center showed children with umbrellas opening the daycare gate and walking out. Some of the children who came outside returned, but a girl wearing a white umbrella, A, lingered in front of the daycare door before eventually disappearing off-screen.

According to the report, there were five adults, including the daycare center director and teachers, in the yard at the time, but no one noticed A leaving. It was only after about 20 minutes that the daycare center realized A was missing and began searching for her. They did not report the incident to the police separately.
A was found by a passing driver on a four-lane road about 700 meters away from the daycare center. The driver saw the child alone and reported it to the police. The daycare center took A back from the police who were attending to her.

After learning about the incident belatedly, A’s parents protested to the daycare center. The daycare center explained that the door, which had been locked due to a visit from district office staff, was accidentally left open for a short time. They apologized several times to A’s parents and promised to strengthen safety measures in the future.

However, A’s parents reported the daycare center director and childcare teachers on charges of child abuse and neglect. The Women and Juvenile Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency has booked the daycare center director and childcare teachers and started an investigation. They plan to review whether the incident constitutes child abuse based on witness statements and CCTV footage at the time.
