The Korean Name of the US Marine Corps Commandant is 'Beommaryu'

The Republic of Korea Marine Corps Headquarters presented the Korean name 'Beommaru' to David Berger, Commandant of the United States Marine Corps, who visited the Marine Corps Headquarters in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province on the 11th. The name Beommaru carries the meaning of "valiantly leading the US Marine Corps to the top like a tiger."
Commander Berger expressed his gratitude for receiving the Korean name, stating, "The bond between the ROK and US Marine Corps is stronger than ever and will never be shaken." He added, "As a core pillar of the ROK-US alliance, let us continue to fulfill our role so that both the Korean and American people can trust us."
General Kim Gye-hwan, Commandant of the ROK Marine Corps, also said, "The ROK and US Marine Corps maintain a stronger and firmer relationship than ever as key forces preserving peace in the region," and expressed sincere thanks to the US Marine Corps Commandant for his efforts in establishing the combined defense posture of the ROK-US Marine Corps.
Commander Berger is recognized as a pro-Korea American general who has supported the development of the ROK Marine Corps by actively promoting the resumption of the Ssangryong Exercise, a large-scale live-fire exercise between the ROK and US Marine Corps that had been suspended since 2018, as well as the deployment of US Marine Corps forces on the Korean Peninsula.
