Recovery of Freight Train Derailment Near Buk-Yeongcheon Station Completed
Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) announced on the 11th that it has completed recovery work for the freight train derailment accident near Buk-Yeongcheon Station on the Jungang Line (towards the Daegu Line) and resumed operations.
The accident occurred the previous day, on the 10th, around 11:32 a.m., when the 5th car of a 19-car freight train carrying cement from Jecheon, Chungbuk to Sindong, Chilgok, Gyeongbuk, passing through Wonje Tunnel, derailed.
As a result of this accident, the operation of 19 Mugunghwa trains scheduled to run between Dongdaegu~Pohang~Taehwagang~Bujeon from 11:55 a.m. to 10:13 p.m. the previous day was completely suspended, and the departure and arrival points of 5 Mugunghwa trains running between Bujeon~Donghae~Dongdaegu were partially adjusted.
Although it was expected that recovery would take considerable time due to the accident occurring inside the tunnel, KORAIL activated an accident response headquarters at the site, mobilized all repair equipment, and deployed 207 employees to work overnight, completing the recovery work 19 hours and 23 minutes after the accident occurred.
