Nexen Group's Kang Byung-jung and Sewoon Steel's Shin Jung-taek Awarded the 14th Dongmyung Prize
Kang Byung-jung, Chairman of Nexen Group, and Shin Jeong-taek, Chairman of Sewoon Steel, were honored with the 14th Dongmyung Award in the industry category.
The prize money was 10 million KRW each, and Chairman Kang Byung-jung donated his award money on-site to Kim Young-sik, Chairman of the ‘Kim Young-sik Three Children Birth Support Foundation.’
The award ceremony was hosted by Dongmyung University and held at 2 p.m. on the 10th at the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Attendees included Ahn Seong-min, Chairperson of the City Council; Jang In-hwa, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce; Kim Jin-su, President of Busan Ilbo; Yang Hong-seon, Director of KBS Busan Broadcasting Station; Choi Byung-han, President of Busan MBC; Lee Oh-sang, President of KNN; and Bin Dae-in, Chairman of BNK Financial Group.
Additionally, Oscar Tsuyoshi, Consul General of Japan, and Jin Il-pyo, Consul General of China, also attended. Mayor Park Hyung-joon and Superintendent Ha Yoon-soo of the City Education Office gave video congratulatory speeches, while Ahn Seong-min, Chairperson of the City Council, and Jang In-hwa, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, delivered on-site congratulatory remarks.

View original imageChairman Kang Byung-jung received the award for his contributions including transparent and open management since founding, revitalization of local industry, continuous investment and technological development leading to growth as a global tire company, pioneering overseas market expansion, fostering trust between labor and management, and job creation.
Chairman Shin Jeong-taek was highly praised for achieving the first domestic processing center sales of 1 trillion KRW, possessing the largest domestic processing capacity, enhancing customer satisfaction through linked sales systems and JIT systems, defending against the inflow of imported goods, and reducing costs through improved logistics flow.
The Dongmyung Award was jointly established in 2008 by Busan City, Busan City Council, Busan City Education Office, Busan Chamber of Commerce, BNK Busan Bank, and major media outlets in Busan. Up to the 13th ceremony, 41 individuals (including one organization) have received the award.
The Dongmyung Award is a public service commendation honoring individuals who embody the spirit of challenge, creativity, and service of the late Dongmyung (東明) Kang Seok-jin, founder of Dongmyung Mokjae.
