On the 10th, the Office announced the 'High-Tech Vocational Education Policy' in national strategic industry sectors to support vocational high schools, which have recently faced difficulties in student recruitment and employment.
The main policies include ▲strengthening support for industry-academia-research linked high-tech vocational education in national strategic industry sectors ▲supporting the enhancement of global competencies of vocational high school students ▲plans to hire vocational high school graduates for administrative positions in the education office for the first time nationwide.
The Office also presented a mid- to long-term reform plan for the future education system of vocational high schools to respond to the continuous decline in the school-age population and changes in the industrial labor market due to the introduction of advanced technologies.
To support high-tech vocational education, the Office will operate high-tech contract departments in Gyeonggi Province's regional strategic industries and five core technology fields selected by the Ministry of Education, including semiconductors, mobility, artificial intelligence, big data, and 3D printing.
In line with the government's expansion of advanced industrial technology infrastructure, such as the plan to establish a system semiconductor cluster national industrial complex, the establishment of Yongin Semiconductor Meister High School and Segyo Software High School is also being promoted.
Additionally, to support the social advancement of vocational high school graduates, the Office will enhance students' global communication skills through global industry field training and international exchanges between vocational education schools.
In particular, to secure quality jobs, starting in 2024, vocational high school graduates will be hired as educational administrative staff through a competitive career appointment exam for the first time nationwide. To this end, active cooperation with the personnel department and central government agencies is planned.
Furthermore, for the mid- to long-term reform of the future vocational high school education system, measures include ▲restructuring educational environments and departments in new industrial fields ▲promoting the reorganization of vocational high schools through school consolidations and type conversions ▲operating integrated specialized high schools ▲and running convergence-type vocational education hub schools.
