"Run and Pick Up, Protect Nakdong River"... Bonghwa to Goryeong Gyeongbuk High School Students' 'Ssedam Running'
An event will take place where participants run relay along a 282 km section of the Nakdong River and pick up trash.
The Gyeongbuk Office of Education announced on the 10th that students across Gyeongbuk will participate in the "Nakdong River Ssedam Running" relay from Bonghwa to Goryeong to raise awareness of the local ecological environment and spread a culture of carbon neutrality through environmental protection activities.
"Ssedam Running" is a Korean term selected by the National Institute of the Korean Language to replace "plogging," referring to jogging while simultaneously picking up trash.
Students from Bonghwa High School in Gyeongbuk are participating in the 'Ssedam Running' event at Naeseongcheon in Bonghwa.
View original imageThe Nakdong River in the Gyeongbuk region flows for 282 km from Bonghwa to Goryeong and is a place where the history and culture of Gyeongbuk live and breathe, serving as an ecological hub that includes diverse biological resources.
"Connecting the Nakdong River Ecology" is an event where students from schools near the main and tributary streams of the Nakdong River take an interest in the local ecological environment and continue to spread a culture of carbon neutrality.
Ecological protection activities along the Nakdong River began on the 9th at Naeseongcheon in Bonghwa with students from Bonghwa High School, followed by Yeongju Jeil High School students at Seocheon in Yeongju on the 10th, and Gyeongbuk Il High School students at Songpyeongcheon in Yecheon on the 11th.
On June 3rd, in commemoration of Environment Day, an event will be held by students from the Andong area along the Nakdong River in Andong, followed by activities in Gumi, Sangju, Uiseong, Chilgok, Seongju, and Goryeong.

Lim Jong-sik, Superintendent of Gyeongbuk Education, said, "Taking an interest in and cherishing the local ecological environment is the first step toward a sustainable society," adding, "We will continue to make efforts to activate ecological transition education so that future generations can enjoy the beautiful ecological environments of Gyeongbuk’s Nakdong River, Baekdudaegan, and the East Sea."
