Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, the parent company of Facebook, overturned a submission loss decision at a jiu-jitsu tournament and ultimately won a gold medal.
On the 8th (local time), local media including the New York Post reported that Zuckerberg participated in a BJJ (Brazilian jiu-jitsu) tournament held on the 6th at Woodside High School near Silicon Valley, California, USA.
According to the media, Zuckerberg won a silver medal in gi jiu-jitsu and a gold medal in no-gi (without gi) jiu-jitsu, competing in two categories. However, the match sparked controversy regarding the decision. According to a video of the match shared online, the match initially went against Zuckerberg.

Zuckerberg was pinned down by his opponent on the ground, and the referee judged that Zuckerberg had tapped out, indicating submission, and declared his opponent the winner. Zuckerberg strongly protested, stating that he did not submit, and eventually the decision was overturned.
The resumed match ended in a draw, and Zuckerberg advanced to the finals where he claimed the gold medal. On that day, Zuckerberg posted several photos on his Instagram, saying, "This tournament was my first-ever jiu-jitsu competition."
Meanwhile, it was revealed in an interview last year that Zuckerberg has been training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, an essential discipline in mixed martial arts (MMA). He stated, "I became interested in jiu-jitsu and started learning it from the early days of the COVID-19 outbreak."

Jiu-jitsu is a traditional Brazilian martial art that subdues opponents through joint locks, chokes, and pins rather than kicks or strikes. The gym owner who taught Zuckerberg praised his skills at the time, calling him a "jiu-jitsu nerd" (someone deeply immersed in a particular field).
