Imsil-gun Accelerates Construction of Bandabi Sports Center for the Disabled
Imsil-gun, Jeonbuk is accelerating the construction of Bandabi Sports Center, a public sports facility for people with disabilities.
According to the county on the 9th, the Bandabi Sports Center, which was finally selected last year through a public contest by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, is a project to expand public sports spaces where people with disabilities can participate in sports activities anytime within their living area without restrictions.
The county started the design contest in March and plans to complete the design service by February next year, aiming for completion in December 2025.
It is planned to be built on a total floor area of 3,500㎡ at 442 Idori, Imsil-eup, with a total project cost of 14.5 billion KRW, including an indoor gymnasium for people with disabilities and an aquatic exercise room.
Since there is no infrastructure for sports activities for people with disabilities, the county plans to build a comprehensive sports center including an aquatic exercise room for a healthy life of people with disabilities, providing tailored programs to offer opportunities for sports activities and rehabilitation.
In particular, as people with disabilities will be able to enjoy sports activities anytime without restrictions, it is expected to greatly contribute to improving the quality of life of people with disabilities in the region.
Along with this, the county plans to actively create infrastructure where people with disabilities can engage in various sports activities, improving their quality of life and health.
With the construction of the Bandabi National Sports Center following the multipurpose gymnasium, the area around the public stadium is expected to become a landmark sports facility in the region where both non-disabled and disabled people can enjoy various sports activities.
Furthermore, by bringing together people with and without disabilities through sports and cultural activities, it is expected to improve awareness of disabilities, addressing the lack of understanding and social indifference toward people with disabilities, and contribute to the emotional development and health promotion of local residents.
County Governor Shim Min said, “Once the Bandabi National Sports Center is built, it is expected to greatly help residents with physical difficulties who have faced many challenges in using sports facilities,” and added, “We will do our best to create an environment where all residents can live healthily and happily by expanding cultural and sports facilities comparable to those in cities.”
