Japan Meteorological Agency Marks Dokdo as Japanese Territory on Earthquake Map... Seo Kyung-deok Protests
"Clear Territorial Provocation... Must Continue to Protest"
Professor Seokyung Deok of Sungshin Women's University urged correction after the Japan Meteorological Agency used a map indicating Dokdo as Japanese territory while reporting on an earthquake that occurred in the northern part of Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan, on the afternoon of the 5th.
On the 7th, Professor Seokyung Deok stated through his social media (SNS), "The earthquake-related map provided on the Japan Meteorological Agency's website clearly marks Dokdo as Japanese territory," and added, "I immediately sent a protest email to the Japan Meteorological Agency."

A photo he captured from part of the Japan Meteorological Agency's website shows a diagonal line drawn between Ulleungdo and Dokdo. This is analyzed as reflecting the stance that Ulleungdo is Korean territory while Dokdo is Japanese territory.
In his email, Professor Seokyung Deok asserted, "Dokdo is clearly the territory of the Republic of Korea from historical, geographical, and international law perspectives," and called the Japan Meteorological Agency's earthquake map "a clear territorial provocation."
He also conveyed, "After emphasizing to the Japan Meteorological Agency to 'correctly mark Dokdo as Korean territory and never make such an error again,' I sent a Japanese-language video explaining why Dokdo is Korean territory."
He expressed, "The Japan Meteorological Agency and Yahoo Japan have long marked Dokdo as their own territory in weather applications and other platforms," and added, "Since Japanese netizens frequently visit the meteorological agency's site during typhoon and tsunami warnings, this can give them a wrong perception about Dokdo, so it is essential to continuously protest and ensure correction."

Furthermore, Professor Seokyung Deok said, "Japan has recently strengthened its 'online promotion' by marking Dokdo as its territory on the torch relay route map on the Tokyo Olympics official website and on the official G20 summit website three years ago," and called for widespread participation, stating, "We must promote Dokdo globally by combining 'Dokdo' with 'K-content' so that people worldwide naturally recognize that 'Dokdo is Korean territory.'"
