President Yoon Suk-yeol announced on the 4th that he has appointed Nam Hwa-young, Deputy Commissioner of the Fire Agency (acting Commissioner), as the new Commissioner of the Fire Agency.
Commissioner Nam, originally from Bonghwa, Gyeongbuk, graduated from Andong High School and the Department of Physics at Pusan National University. Commissioner Nam has led the fire service for six months since last October, when former Commissioner Lee Heung-gyo was suspended from his position amid a prosecution investigation into bid-rigging allegations related to the National Fire Hospital, with Nam serving as acting Commissioner.
