A story has been revealed about how merchants and students around a university gathered money to save a stray cat that was involved in a traffic accident.
'Julnyangi,' a stray cat living near Seoyoung University in Buk-gu, Gwangju, was named by the students based on its distinctive spotted appearance. Julnyangi is well-known among local residents and students and is known to live like a neighbor.
However, on the 25th of last month around 5 p.m., Julnyangi was hit by a minibus running through the main gate intersection of Seoyoung University, resulting in a serious accident. After colliding with the bus, Julnyangi was thrown aside and suffered severe injuries, including a protruding eyeball.
The bus driver left Julnyangi by the roadside and drove away, but the owner of a nearby pet grooming shop and others around the university moved Julnyangi to an animal hospital.

Since Julnyangi had no owner, it only received temporary painkillers without proper treatment and endured the condition until being transferred to a local animal shelter in a dangerous state. Upon learning this, Kim Jang-yoon (67), a security guard at Seoyoung University, took Julnyangi to a large hospital and had surgery performed.
Thanks to Kim’s good deed, Julnyangi’s life was saved, but the surgery cost a whopping 12 million won. Upon hearing this, Seoyoung University students and residents spread the news of Julnyangi’s surgery through social networking services (SNS) and began raising funds for the surgery fees.
Within three days, about 700 people participated and raised nearly 10 million won. Those who contributed to the fundraiser for Julnyangi sometimes transferred money with messages like 'Cheer up' instead of their own names.
Later, the animal hospital, upon hearing Julnyangi’s story, agreed to discount half of the medical fees, easing the financial burden. Currently, Julnyangi is reported to have recovered about 70% of its health.
