Yeonggwang-gun to Conduct 'National Civil Defense Shelter Drill' on 16th for the First Time in 6 Years

Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kang Jong-man) will promote public action guidelines in preparation for air raid situations and conduct an air raid civil defense evacuation drill to strengthen national response capabilities in emergencies on the 16th from 2:00 PM for 20 minutes.

According to the county on the 2nd, this civil defense evacuation drill will be conducted simultaneously nationwide for the first time in six years since 2017, under the supervision of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, amid escalating security tensions due to North Korea's missile provocations.

The drill on the day will proceed in the order of air raid alert issuance, warning alert issuance, and alert cancellation. When the air raid alert is issued at 2:00 PM, all citizens must quickly evacuate to the nearest underground shelter following the guidance of the staff.

From 2:00 PM for 15 minutes, nationwide vehicle movement will be restricted, and drivers must stop their vehicles on the right side of the road and listen to the drill situation through radios inside their cars.

When the warning alert is issued at 2:15 PM, people can leave the shelters and normal traffic is allowed. When the alert is canceled at 2:20 PM, daily life can resume.

The main control areas in Yeonggwang include major roads in Yeonggwang-eup (such as the County Office intersection, Terminal intersection, Rotary, etc.) and some roads in the towns and townships.

A county official said, "With continuous provocations from the North, awareness of security is more important than ever," and added, "We ask for active cooperation and participation in the drill so that residents can respond well to any emergency situation."
