Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, was invited to give a special lecture to the Department of Political Science and Diplomacy at Konkuk University on the 1st, where he spent time communicating with young people.
Hosted by the Department of Political Science and Diplomacy at Konkuk University, this lecture was held under the theme “Gwangjin Communicating Together with Youth Today.” About 50 attendees, including faculty and students, participated, and Mayor Kim introduced various youth policies, sharing realistic concerns faced by university students and continuing sincere communication.
As Gwangjin-gu has the highest proportion of single-person youth households among Seoul’s autonomous districts, it is implementing various policy projects. The five core tasks for youth?▲Communication ▲Jobs ▲Housing ▲Welfare · Culture · Economy ▲Rights · Participation?were introduced, discussing measures to support youth amid economic crises and employment difficulties.
First, he introduced online and offline communication channels for youth. An online portal will be launched this month to share real-time information with young people and enable two-way communication.
Along with this, there are plans to establish a comprehensive institution covering all aspects of youth life, including jobs, housing, and culture.
Furthermore, he addressed questions about jobs and housing, which are the top concerns for university students. He drew attention by introducing the Youth Employment Academy opening on the 30th of this month, a total care program for employment success, and youth housing near subway stations. In addition to financial support, he showed strong commitment to improving youth welfare and rights through initiatives such as creating a culture and arts street specialized for university areas and establishing a youth policy committee.
Finally, a two-way communication session between Mayor Kim and the youth took place. Drawing on his 30 years of public service experience, he shared messages he wanted to convey to young people, offering empathy and comfort.
Students who attended the lecture shared their impressions: “I didn’t know there were so many policies for youth,” “It’s amazing and delightful to have an honest conversation since we usually don’t get to meet the mayor,” and “I can feel the effort and concern for youth welfare.”
