Series of Suicide Bombings in Mali, Africa... At Least 9 Dead and 60 Injured
At least nine people were killed and 60 injured in a series of suicide bombings in central Mali, West Africa, on the 22nd (local time).
Yakuba Maiga, spokesperson for the local governor, explained that three consecutive suicide bombings occurred in the village of Sebare in central Mali, and all casualties were civilians.
Sebare is known as the location of a major Malian military base and the headquarters of the United Nations peacekeeping force in Mali (MINUSMA).
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks. However, the armed group JNIM (Islamic and Muslim Support Group), linked to Al-Qaeda, claimed responsibility yesterday for the attack on the 18th that killed four people, including the chief of staff to President Assimi Goita.
Since 2012, Mali has experienced unstable conditions due to the activities of armed groups linked to Islamic extremist forces such as Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State (IS), as well as separatist factions.
After two coups in August 2020 and May 2021, a military government led by President Goita seized power, but the situation has not improved.
Meanwhile, Malian military authorities announced in a separate statement that a military helicopter returning to base after completing a mission crashed in a residential area of the capital, Bamako, on the same day.
