Gwangyang-si Selected as an Innovative Case in the Field of 'Locating Socially Vulnerable Groups'
u-Suhocheon-sa Service First Implemented Domestically
Gwangyang City in Jeonnam announced on the 21st that its ‘u-Suho Angel Service’ was selected as the first case in the social vulnerable location tracking category at the 1st Government Innovation First and Best Case Contest hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
Among eight institutions nationwide that were finally selected for the government innovation first cases, Gwangyang City's ‘u-Suho Angel Service’ was chosen.
Since December 2007, Gwangyang City's ‘u-Suho Angel Service’ has provided devices capable of confirming location information to about 300 people including those with intellectual and developmental disabilities and the elderly, and sends text messages to guardians when the user leaves key activity areas (safe zones).
Additionally, in cooperation with mobile carriers, the service has been improved to enable emergency rescue dispatch from the relevant fire station or police station in case the user goes missing or faces urgent danger.
The u-Suho Angel Service has contributed to expanding the social safety net and the spread of location-based services, and has since developed in various forms in several local governments.
The cases selected as the first and best government innovations will be introduced as exemplary cases on the government innovation website, and promotional videos and card news will be produced to widely disseminate the innovation achievements.
A city official said, “We will continue to innovate so that citizens can live more comfortably and safely through creative ideas.”
